Models
Think of the models you have learned that support you to navigate and make decisions as a leader.
There are probably more than you can name at once on the spot.
Now that the notion is planted, you will more likely notice a myriad of models throughout your day.
Models help us contextualize the ambiguous.
Models enable your brain’s heuristic systems to function, preserving cognitive resources.
When in doubt, your brain will seek to find a model (consciously or unconsciously) to make sense and process information.
As a leader your work is, at times, to provide a model for your team.
At times it may be to help them identify what model may be unconsciously at play.
Other times it is to challenge whether a model is actually the proper structure for a novel problem.
A model may help.
Sometimes holding space to let things unfold without structure is the counterintuitive model that is needed.
Insight is best cultivated outside of formal structures that drive focus.
