Habit

The challenge with sustainable behaviour change is that it requires the formation of new habits.
Amidst all the noise around building habits, one important factor is often missed.
Novelty is inherently present at the beginning of habit formation.

You begin a new habit and find yourself with energy, focus, and tenacity.
Your mind is incapable of disassociating how much of that drive is correlated to the novelty of the habit versus your innate motivational factors.
19 days later, when the habit is faltering, the effect of novelty is apparent and it is too late to salvage.

Your brain fixates on the allure of novelty.
It will tell you a new direction is easier than it is.
When building a habit, seek to minimize the effect of novelty in order to validate your actual motivational factors.
