Easy
Change is hard.
Your brain wants change but also wants the easiest (lowest resource demand) pathway to get there.
The motivation to change must exceed the resource demand to change and sustain the change.
When you have defined a desirable change and have the intrinsic motivation to do so, this equation is simpler.
As a leader, you have to add in an additional variable.
Your intrinsic motivation for change does not translate to someone else.
While your change may make sense, the real work is in developing the intrinsic motivation in others to
overcome the resource demand of making and sustaining change.
This requires more than making a really compelling argument around why it is a good change.
You need to make it easy for your team to adopt the change under the assumption that their resource demand to motivation ratio will be less favourable than your own.
