Bold

Writing an email in ALL-CAPS is bold, though not particularly effective.
Increasing your grounds to water ratio will make for bolder coffee, though your nervous system and stomach may suffer.
Boldness is something that grabs your attention yet comes with some risk.

When overplayed, boldness becomes aggressive dogmatism that is perceived as a lack of listening.
When underplayed, boldness comes as such a surprise to the recipient that the act of boldness distracts from the intended impact.
As a leader, knowing when to be bold, and how to leverage it balanced between consistently and sparingly, is a challenging skill to develop.

For many leaders the moment to be bold is foreshadowed by a feeling in their gut.
That feeling is subsequently followed by the brain telling the gut to calm down and that exiting the current zone of comfort is not ideal.
The first act of being bold is an internal one: declaring to your mind that this is a moment worth grabbing attention, despite the risk.
