Tenure
Tenure offers important organizational value: you have context and experience.
It also comes with risk: your mind has a robust set of heuristics guiding its conclusions.
Heuristics enable you to quickly make sense of things without expending undue energy.
Tenure can increase the likelihood that you assume you know how it will go.
The reality is that, at best, you only know how it probably will go.
These are not the same thing.
Energetically efficient cognitive processing is critical to making it through your day.
It is equally critical that you set up checkpoints to step back and question where your tenure-driven heuristics might be making risky assumptions.
