Evolution

Adversity is a core catalyst for evolution.
The presence of adversity subtly nudges changes in a variety of aspects that cannot be noticed in the moment.
The challenge with understanding adversity’s role in evolution is it occurs over millennia, yet your mind seeks binary distinctions based in your present context.

If you took evolution in a metaphorical microcosm, the adversity you face today at 11am could potentially correlate with a personal evolution 30 years from now.
The challenge is you do not know what that adaptation will be, nor whether this specific adversity you are facing will spark any change at all.
The risk is that you see adversity for its immediate nuisance and seek to dismiss it, missing the catalyst for evolution entirely.

The scientific truth: adversity will drive adaptation.
The cognitive truth: your mind will desperately seek to understand exactly what adaptation will emerge from each and every adversity.
The paradox: your mind wants the specific answer today that will only become clear to you many years in the future should you invest in today’s adversity without a guarantee of success.

This is the premise of team building.
When you take the time to foster dialogues and experiences that challenge a team’s existing structure, the
real benefit is not apparent until later.
As a leader, if your approach to team building lacks adversity, you are ignoring the potential for evolution of your team.
