Gamificiation

Having something worth fighting for is motivating.
It recruits hippocampal function and plays upon your natural inclination towards gamification.
Regardless of whether you identify as a competitive person, gamifying a task creates an unconscious reward structure.

This can be leveraged strategically to be more motivated as well as to amplify performance.
It can also become a distraction from strategic action or the real goal.
Not every battle needs to be fought, not every task needs gamifying.

Do you really care to fight for that thing?
Or is it the fight, itself, that is motivating you?
As a leader, help your team discern what motivating factors are at play.
